Is Your Sales Tax Paid Refundable?

It is if it was paid on equipment used primarily to make a product for sale at retail. When a business purchases this type of machinery or equipment they are required to pay sales tax charged by the seller. If the seller does not charge sales tax, the business is required to file and pay use tax. For more information on use tax see Do You Have A Use Tax Liability?  A refund of this tax paid can be claimed by filing Minnesota Form ST11 , Capital Equipment Refund Claim. A claim for refund may be filed within 42 months from the 20th day of the following month after purchase or within one year of the date of an order assessing liability whichever is longer.
